Lesson 2: Harold and the Purple Crayon





This week, our lesson centered around the book entitled Harold and the Purple Crayon. Our students each received a copy of the book and also a set of Play-doh tools.



Concepts from the book:

-Vocabulary: apple tree, balloon, beach, boat, buildings, city, crayon, dragon, forest, frightened, moonlight, moose, mountain, ocean, path, picnic, policeman, porcupine, purple, sail, shook, window, woods
- Differences between real and make-believe
-Straight, long/short, on top of, small/little
-Speech sound: /p/ (purple, path, picnic, pie etc.)




Concepts from the game:

-colors
-sharing
-fine motor skills
-action words (squish, stamp, cut, squeeze)


Activities of the day:
1.      Parents + Preschoolers read the book
2.      Parents + Preschoolers crafted hot air balloon
3.      Parents + Preschoolers explored the Play-doh and tools
4.      SLPs + Parents discussed strategies to address their child’s speech & language goals in the home, and how to utilize the book and game to enhance these strategies.
